About the game
Jackaroo is a board game where marbles are moved by playing cards rather than dice. That single difference changes everything: you are not waiting for a number to arrive, you are choosing among five cards you already hold, and you know at the start of your turn what you are able to do.
Each card carries its own meaning. Ace and King open the home, the five moves any marble on the board including an opponent one, the seven splits between two of your marbles, and the Jack swaps one of your marbles with somebody else. The same card can rescue you or burden you depending on where your marbles stand.
Basic Jackaroo rules
- Four players, four marbles each starting at home, on a circular track of 52 spaces running around the board.
- A standard 52-card deck with no jokers, five cards in each hand. When everybody runs out, a new round is dealt.
- Ace and King release a marble from home. Either can move instead: the Ace one space, the King thirteen.
- A moving King kills every marble it passes on the way, not only the one it lands on.
- A four moves a marble four spaces backwards.
- A five moves any marble on the board five spaces, yours or an opponent one, so it attacks as easily as it defends.
- A seven is split between two of your own marbles so that the two moves add up to seven.
- A ten cancels the turn of the player after you, who discards a card without moving.
- A Jack swaps one of your marbles with an opponent marble on the track. Marbles standing on safe spaces cannot be swapped.
- Landing on an opponent marble sends it back home, except on the safe spaces, which are the four player exits.
- A player with no legal move for any card in hand discards one card and the turn passes.
- The first player to bring all four marbles into their own finishing lane wins.
How to play Jackaroo on Balotk

What happens if I cannot play any card?
You discard one card from your hand and the turn passes on. The table shows clearly that the card was discarded rather than played.
