About the game

Ludo is a four-colour board game. Each colour has four tokens locked in its home, and only a six on the die releases one. From there the token travels the whole circuit until it reaches its own coloured lane and finishes in the centre.

Its simplicity is only on the surface. Every roll is a choice between releasing a new token, advancing one that is close to home, and landing on an opponent to send them back to the beginning. That choice is the game.

Basic Ludo rules

Two to four players. Each player has a colour and four tokens that start at home. With two players they sit opposite each other.
One die is rolled, from one to six, and a token can only leave home on a six.
A six earns an extra roll. So does capturing an opponent token, and so does bringing a token into the centre.
A token moves along the circuit by exactly the number shown, with no jumping and no shortcuts.
Landing on an opponent token sends it back to its home, where it needs a fresh six to come out again. Safe squares are the exception: no capture happens on them.
After completing the circuit a token enters its own coloured lane towards the centre, and only an exact count brings it home.
The first player to bring all four tokens to the centre wins.
