About the game
Uno is a fast matching game: you play a card that shares the colour or the number of the card on top of the pile. The depth comes from timing the action cards that reverse the order, skip a turn, or bury the next player under draw cards.
The Balotk version supports stacking. A draw card is not swallowed immediately: you can answer it with another of the same kind, passing a doubled debt along the table until somebody cannot answer and takes the whole pile.
Basic Uno rules
- 108 cards in four colours — red, yellow, green and blue — numbered zero to nine, plus skip, reverse and draw two cards, plus wild and wild draw four.
- Each player gets seven cards and one card is turned up to start the discard pile.
- Play a card matching the colour, the number, or the action type of the top card. A wild can be played on anything and its owner names the next colour.
- A skip card drops the next player turn, and a reverse card flips the direction of play.
- Stacking: a player hit with a draw card does not draw right away. If they hold the same kind of draw card, even in a different colour, they play it and the debt passes on doubled. The first player who cannot answer takes the whole accumulated draw and loses their turn.
- A draw four cannot be stacked on a draw two, and a draw two cannot be stacked on a draw four. Each kind is answered only by its own kind.
- With no playable card you keep drawing one card at a time until something playable appears. If the draw pile runs out first, your turn simply passes.
- A player left with a single card announces Uno, and the first to empty their hand wins the round.

How does draw card stacking work?
A player hit with a draw two can answer with another draw two, even in a different colour, which passes a doubled debt to the next player. Whoever cannot answer draws the whole amount. Draw four and draw two are never stacked on each other.
What happens if I have no playable card?
You draw one card at a time until a playable card appears, and then you play it. If the draw pile empties first, your turn passes to the next player.
How many players does Uno need?
Two to four. On Balotk a table starts immediately with computer players even when you are on your own.
What is the difference between a wild and a wild draw four?
Both can be played on any card and both let you name the next colour, but a wild draw four also adds four cards to the debt of the next player.
